INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT IBIZA<\/em><\/p>\n

We all know Ibiza is famous for its clubbing and beautiful beaches, but there’s much more to it than meets the eye.<\/p>\n

From a rich, cultural history, to hidden gems you may never have known existed.<\/p>\n

Here’s some lesser known facts about the island…<\/h1>\n

  1. \u00a0The official spoken language here is Catalan, although Spanish is the most commonly used.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

     <\/p>\n

    2. The name ‘Ibiza<\/strong>‘ is pronounced so many ways, depending on where you come from in the world, or what you’ve been told is correct. From eye-bee-tha to eee-beet-zaa. An ongoing battle between those who think they’re right, those who are right, and those who simply haven’t got a clue either way. In fact, ee-bee-tha and ee-bee-za are totally acceptable pronunciations, along with the traditional Balearic Catalan Eivissa (uh<\/span>\u00b7<\/span><\/span>vee<\/span>\u00b7<\/span><\/span>suh). Remember, the Spanish people’s V’s are said with a B. For example, Valencia is pronounced ‘B’alencia. Confused? So you should be!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    3. The island of Ibiza<\/strong>, eye-bee-za (ok sorry) is the third largest in the Balearic Islands<\/strong>. It covers approximately 571.6\u00a0km\u00b2, and it’s six times smaller than neighbouring Majorca.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    4. Standing a whopping 450m tall, is the highest point on this fantastic ‘little’ rock. A wonderful spot for breathtaking views over the island and towards Formentera<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    S’Talaia<\/strong> is also a beautiful place to watch the sunrise and sunset from.<\/p>\n

    You can drive up to the top, or hike if you’re feeling brave.<\/p>\n

    5. With over 80 different beaches<\/strong> around the coastline, you’ll never run out of places to visit with your towel and umbrella.<\/p>\n

    6. Ibiza<\/strong> is AMAZING in the winter months.<\/p>\n

    It’s the perfect time to visit if you want to experience the real<\/em> side of the island. It’s often still very warm during the day, but not crazy-hot like the summer.<\/p>\n

    With an average of 300 days of sunshine throughout the year<\/strong>, the beaches are still popular with the locals on the warmer days.<\/p>\n

    Yet a world away from the summer madness.<\/p>\n

    It’ll almost<\/em> feel\u00a0like your own private island, with a few added guests.<\/p>\n

    7. The nightlife doesn’t stop in October<\/strong> either.<\/p>\n

    In fact, we think the winter in one of the best times for parties here.<\/p>\n

    There’s no mass tourism, and the vibe is a lot more relaxed and fun.<\/p>\n

    8. Hierbas<\/strong> is the traditional drink of Ibiza<\/strong>. An aniseed-liquor, created with a range of foraged fruits and herbs. Including thyme, oranges, fennel and juniper berries.<\/p>\n

    The aromas are extracted to create that unmistakable flavour.<\/p>\n

    Known to aid digestion, it’s a popular choice after a heavy meal.<\/p>\n

    It also gets you pretty drunk too, if you have a few too many!<\/p>\n

    9. Ibiza<\/strong> was declared a World Heritage Site<\/strong> by the UNESCO<\/strong> in 1999. Posidonia<\/strong> or ‘sea grass<\/em>” is the reason why the waters are such a stunning shade of turquoise here.<\/p>\n

    The Golden Coast<\/h2>\n

    It’s been protecting the waters of Ibiza<\/strong> and Formentera<\/strong> for over 100 thousand years, and is a very important part of the islands preservation.<\/p>\n

    A popular location for boats and yachts during the summer, you need to be extremely careful when anchoring off the coast. You could end up in ‘deep water’ (pun intended<\/em>), if you do so with posidonia below!<\/p>\n
