The Weather on Ibiza

Just like everywhere else in the world, the weather can be pretty unpredictable here.

One week it may say storms, yet we don’t see a drop of rain. Other weeks we may have a last minute pour-down, before going back to ‘El-Scorchio’ the following day.

Many people seem to think us residents have a magical insight into the weather here. We know just as much as you do, and allso rely on weather apps for somewhat of a better ‘insight’ into how the week ahead is looking.

What we do know is that summer is mostly sunny and warm. With an average of 300 days sunshine a year, it’s a popular destination for holiday makers looking to escape the cold in favour of the glorious sunshine.

The summer season kicks off in May when temperatures start to rise, and the weather is a little more reliable. Normally sticking around the mid-twenties mark, it’s comfortable enough for those seeking warmer weather, without melting in the process.

The least rainfall comes in the months of June and September, with August sometimes having the odd storm. It is however the hottest time to visit, with temperatures rising to around 35 degrees during the daytime. Because of this, it can often be exceptionally warm still at night. A fan or air-con is a must in your apartment, villa or hotel room, as you’ll struggle to relax without it.

September is amazing. Still hot, yet the ‘OTT’ edge that August brings has slowly wound down. Leaving the remnants of the last 4 months to a glorious, bearable climate to be enjoyed throughout the day. October is by far our favourite month. Sunbathing is still possible (in face it often is year-round), the beaches are quieter and there’s a special buzz about the place. The sea is still warm enough to swim in, and there’s a lot less traffic on the roads. It’s the perfect time to explore, and we love it.

We recommend bringing a jumper and/or thin jacket for May, June and October for the evenings. Just in case there’s a slight chill in the air. It’s always advisable to bring a jacket regardless, in case of wind or rain. July and August you’ll be wanting to remove clothes, so you can normally leave your extra layers in your suitcase.

If you’re looking to visit out of season (NovemberApril) then we suggest packing warmer clothing, with some lighter bits included. Some days feel just like summer, so you want to be able to slip into something a little more airy, should you get too hot.
