With the next Solomon + Live event looming, we only thought it was fair to share our thoughts on the opening show of the season, so you can be confident with your decision and make your way to Destino on Thursday 11th August for an awesome live gig with a DJ that’s more than proving his weight in gold this summer.

It felt like the waiting game to hear another Solomon + Live event in Ibiza, yes the big man treats us to weekly sessions at Pacha every Sunday but his live events are daytime, open aired shows in two of the most glamorous places on the island and with only a handful of events this season, it’s quickly become the hottest ticket in town.
Having already teased us with the dates and line ups, Thursday 23rd of June was the first in the seven part series of Solomun’s live gigs which this season sees him perform four times at Destino and three times in Ushuaia. Having not seen the Diynamic label boss in action at Ushuaia before, I eagerly made my way to the world famous outdoor venue in Playa D’en Bossa ready for action.
The Solomun + Live party finds global house star Solomun playing a set of his own at each party, with a hand picked guest performing a very special live set. Each party kicks off at 4pm with Igor Marijuan from Ibiza Sonica Radio, then from 6-8pm a Diynamic label star playing warm up which on Thursday was Lehor.
Pig & Dan were the live act of the night and by this time it was around 8pm, people were still coming in thick and fast and the dance floor had filled up nicely. Ushuaia lends itself to the perfect venue to this kind of event – the festival feel went hand in hand with Pig & Dan’s set.
Soon enough, it was time for main man Solomun to take centre stage for the final hours of the party and it wasn’t just me who was exited to see Solomon in action. Quite the crowd had gathered on the raised Ushusia stage including Marco Carola. He opened with Mat.Joe, Make a living which set the pace of the evening nicely.
His excitement and passion for the music transcended onto the crowd, his fans were almost transfixed and grooving along to every beat. I didn’t move from the very front of the stage all night long so had a a front row seat to witness the concentration on Solomun’s face as he produced the music in real time to and moved his body to the beat of the tracks.
He weaved in classic house tracks and commercial tunes into the dark clunky tech beats to keep the atmosphere upbeat and light, a must in a venue like Ushuaia, playing tracks including Loco Dice, Pimp Jackson Is Talkin’ Now and Nick Curly, Rebound. He read the crowd like the professional he is and had us eating out of the palm of his hand shouting the lyrics to Miloko – Sing It Back (Mousse T’s Feel Love Mix) as the penultimate track of the night.
Knowing that the DJ is playing live adds prestige to the arena, with mixed emotions of admiration and excitement maybe because there isn’t a huge amount of live acts in Ibiza. If he was nervous then he certainly didn’t show it, or maybe it was the huge glasses of wine he was gulping back that kept the nerves at bay. Either way it was an incredible performance from Solomun, he’s solid at the worst of times but I love the Live, daytime concept.
Solomun closed with a classic, The Doors, Riders On The Storm which caused the crowd to erupt into a full on sing along to close such an impressive first live show. Thankfully, there’s still four more events to get to so what are you waiting for, click here and get your ticket online now.
